4-Day Mt. Kenya Hiking Adventure via Sirimon–Sirimon Route
Your hiking adventure begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi at 8:30 AM. A scenic drive takes you through central Kenya’s lush highlands to the Sirimon Gate (2,660m), the official entry point to Mt. Kenya National Park. Here, you'll meet your team of experienced guides, porters, and chefs. After registration, enjoy a packed lunch before beginning your trek. The 9 km hike to Old Moses Camp (3,300m) starts with a steady climb through forest and bamboo zones. You’ll stop at Sirimon Gorge for photos and take in the beautiful landscapes. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views and acclimatize slowly to the altitude. The hike takes about 3 to 4 hours. Upon arrival at camp, settle in, enjoy a warm dinner, and rest in preparation for the next leg of your hiking adventure.
After an early breakfast, resume your hiking adventure by trekking toward Shipton’s Camp at 4,200 meters. The day’s hike covers about 14 km and takes 6 to 8 hours. The trail passes through beautiful moorland dotted with giant lobelias and unique alpine flora. You’ll also enjoy striking views of the towering Batian and Nelion peaks in the distance. Lunch will be served en route at a scenic spot. The gradual ascent allows your body to continue acclimatizing while you experience the raw beauty of Mt. Kenya. Arrival at Shipton’s Camp in the afternoon reveals an unforgettable setting surrounded by dramatic cliffs and glaciers. After dinner, rest early to prepare for your summit push the most challenging part of the hiking adventure.
At 3:00 AM, begin the final ascent to Point Lenana (4,985m), the third-highest peak of Mt. Kenya. This portion of the hike is steep and rocky, demanding mental and physical endurance. You’ll reach the summit by sunrise around 6:30 AM—and be rewarded with stunning views stretching across Kenya and beyond. It’s a magical moment that marks the high point of your hiking adventure. After celebrating at the summit, descend carefully back to Shipton’s Camp for breakfast and a short rest. Later, continue down to Old Moses Camp (3,300m), retracing the trail through moorland. This segment takes 5 to 6 hours, with a lunch break along the way. Enjoy your final night on the mountain with a warm meal and the satisfaction of having conquered one of Africa’s iconic peaks.
After breakfast, begin your last descent through the forest back to Sirimon Gate. The hike takes around 2 to 3 hours and offers one last chance to spot wildlife like monkeys and forest birds. At the gate, a vehicle from Topma Tours will be waiting to take you to Nanyuki town. Here, you’ll enjoy a well-deserved lunch and reflect on your incredible hiking adventure. After lunch, proceed with your transfer back to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening. Your 4-day Mt. Kenya hiking adventure ends with a heart full of memories, new friendships, and a great sense of achievement.
