7 Days Northern Kenya Cultural & Photography Expedition.

Route: Nairobi – Marsabit – Ngurunit – Loiyangalani – Maralal – Lake Baringo – Nairobi

Day 1: Nairobi – Marsabit
Early morning departure from Nairobi heading north through the diverse landscapes of central and northern Kenya. Arrive in Marsabit in the afternoon and check in at your hotel. In the evening, visit a Boran village for cultural interaction, offering a great introduction to the local traditions and lifestyle.

Day 2: Marsabit – Ngurunit
After an early breakfast, depart for Ngurunit, a small desert village set at the foothills of the Ndoto Mountains. Enjoy the scenic drive through remote northern landscapes, arriving in time to relax and take in the surroundings.

Accommodation: Catholic Guesthouse

Day 3: Ngurunit – Loiyangalani
After breakfast, depart for Loiyangalani. Along the way, you may have an optional visit to a desert oasis. Arrive in Loiyangalani in time for lunch and check in at your lodge. In the afternoon, visit a Turkana village for cultural interaction and photography. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Loiyangalani – Full Day Cultural Experience
After an early breakfast, visit the Gabbra community in Gas, where you will experience their daily life, including camel and goat milking. In the afternoon, visit the Elmolo community, one of the smallest tribes in Kenya. Enjoy a boat ride on Lake Turkana to visit the Elmolo shrines and observe local fishing practices, including the unique “obambl(a)” fish. Alternatively, if time permits, visit nearby lava formations for additional exploration.

Day 5: Loiyangalani – Maralal
After breakfast, check out and depart for Maralal. En route, stop at the Malaso Escarpment for scenic views and photography. Arrive in Maralal in time for lunch and check in at your lodge. In the afternoon, visit a traditional Samburu blacksmith to observe and photograph their craft. Later, you may take a short walk in town or relax at the lodge.

Day 6: Maralal – Lake Baringo
After breakfast, depart for Lake Baringo. Arrive in time for lunch and check in at your hotel. In the afternoon, visit a Pokot village for cultural interaction and insight into their traditional lifestyle.

Day 7: Lake Baringo – Nairobi
Early morning visit to Njemps (Ilchamus) Island, including a boat ride on the lake. During the excursion, enjoy wildlife viewing with chances to spot crocodiles and hippos. Return for lunch, then depart for Nairobi, arriving in the late evening and drop-off at your accommodation.
